Write a Letter

Writing a letter to a person who has upset you, left you, caused you anxiety, etc., can be very therapeutic. Write the letter as though you are going to send it. At a minimum, when you are done with your letter, your negative energy will be released...maybe not forever, but for the time being. You can release the energy within and allow it to pass through you. You do not need to hold on to the negativity. Release it.

If it is a letter to someone who is alive or you may have contact with in the future, you will now have your words to say to them. You won't be flustered or nervous or at a loss for words.

If it is to someone who has passed on, you may have certain religious or spiritual beliefs around him/her receiving the information in the letter. For instance, that person can see you/hear you or that he/she can read your letter if you burn it and send the message up in smoke. There are numerous beliefs around what happens after death. However, my main reason for writing letters to my late fiance was that 1) I still felt close to him and 2) I could release my negative emotions without feeling the need to talk about it.

If you are writing to simply release the energy you are holding, you might feel better to just writing the letter. Keep it, burn it, or throw it out. Do whatever feels light or right to you.

If you think you might like to send it, I suggest the following:

Let it sit for a day.

Re-read the letter.

Decide whether or not you want to send it (i.e. are there irrevocable consequences? Do you want that person to have something from you in writing?)

Send it, burn it, or keep it. Do what feels right for you.
